Tacos · Tostadas · Burritos

The Long Beach kitchen behind the two-pound burrito.

Hard tacos fried to order, a burrito you hold with both hands, and a counter that has been doing it the same way on Clark Avenue for a long time. Eat in, take it out, or let us bring the taco bar to you.

Three things to know about

Most of it comes out on a plate with a green stripe around the rim. If you have never been in before, start with one of these.

  • A wet burrito on a blue plate under red sauce and melted cheese, with a scoop of guacamole on top, on a brightly tiled table beside a cold beer.

    The Baja Burrito

Rice, beans, lettuce and your choice of meat, served wet under melted cheese with a garnish of fresh guacamole.

  • Three small street tacos on soft corn tortillas topped with chopped onion and cilantro, on a diner plate beside a basket of tortilla chips.

    Street Tacos

Three of the original three-bite tacos, with freshly chopped onions and cilantro.

  • A fish taco on a soft tortilla with shredded cabbage and pico de gallo, on a rimmed plate beside a basket of chips and a bottle of Coca-Cola.

    Fish Taco

Tender flaky tilapia with red and green cabbage, pico de gallo and our special sauce.

Mike, Ramiro, and a two-pound burrito

The Press-Telegram sent a photographer down to Long Beach and put owner Mike Mendelsohn and head chef Ramiro Gonzalez on the food page, each holding one of the two dishes people already knew Baja Sonora for: the two-pound burrito, and the deep-fried chicken tacos with rice and beans.

Both of them are still on the menu, and the burrito still comes in a size that feeds eight to ten people if you ask for it that way.

Inside, and out on the patio

  • A group of guests smiling around a table covered in food and drinks, beneath the restaurant's hand-painted menu board.
A full table under the menu board.
  • Two tall Coca-Cola cups with straws standing on a polished dark wood table in the dining room.
Two large Cokes, no ice shortage.
  • Picnic tables with brightly painted tops, shaded by blue umbrellas, on the patio outside the restaurant.
